Or, Resources for Internet Marketing and Building an Internet Business in the New Age.

If you are involved in consulting, software development or internet marketing it is worth a read to understand the core concepts behind these best selling new age marketing authors. Marketing they are, because each of these folks are delivering new media and marketing methods themselves trying to convince us of the changing landscape with how we send and receive information today. Check these out. They may help you better understand developing strategies, concepts and methods for doing business online.

Search Engine Marketing Inc.

Driving Search Traffic to Your Companies Website

General all in one broad strokes on Internet Marketing. A good reference book on “How to”. Gets into enough into enough detail to give you a basic handle most aspects of Search Marketing. Mike Moran and Bill Hunt

The (Longer) Long Tail

Why the Future of Business is Selling Less of More

Explains the details of basically this core theory backed by examples. : “In an era without constraints of physical shelf space and other bottle necks of distribution, narrowly targeted goods and services can be as economically attractive as mainstream fare.” David Meerman Scott

unMarketing

Stop Marketing and Start Engaging

Straight forward information mostly based on Scott Strattens often hilarious experiences in New Media Marketing. There is a heavier emphasis in his strength on Twitter, Facebook and Video marketing.

Drive

The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us

Personal favorite. If you’re at all a futurist you will enjoy this book. Dan Pink brings to light what, how and why people are motivated today. Drawing comparisons between motivation 2.0 and the new 3.0 model he illustrates quite clearly the prevailing winds of what drives people today, autonomy to direct our own lives with purpose.

The 4 Hour Work Week

Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere and Join the New Rich

Besides being funny as hell, Tim Ferriss discusses how we can streamline our lives to get more time to do what we want to do. There’s some good resources and takeaways in this book especially of you are self employed.

One of the best things I love about my work is that I am always learning and exploring new material related to the field of online business. The startups alone these days seem to be staggering.

If you have an internet business or you are in the internet marketing field and have read these books let us know your perspective. (Oh..Regarding the picture above; I am not a best selling author but after reading unMarketing about the BS that goes on in getting books published, I thought it would kind of fun to make my own best selling book cover and titles.

You may associate the dip with the valley of no sales. However, I liked Seth Godin’s book The Dip because it is an easy read.. a couple hours at the most, and it essentially suggests that we ask ourselves the question..Are we in the right Dip?

What he contends is that you evaluate your passions and strengths before you get into the dip – to make sure you have enough juice in you, to power through the dip when it inevitably arrives. Because we all hit the dip, the difference between success and mediocrity, according to Seth is, that we have enough energy at that time to go forward with our career path, new project, or business start up etc. to power through that valley when it arrives.

Accordingly it always arrives. The start up is always fun but success is getting beyond this gap.

This reminds me of another book..The Right Mountain, which parallels a former Ad Exec’s journey to and up Everest. ( I have signed copy. Who ha!) again contending a similar point with more critical emphasis. Climbing Everest might be an inspiring goal but it may not be the correct choice for many people because it may just consume every once of energy you have…and that might not be a good thing.

In this day of online marketing and multiple new business model choices, it is even more important to evaluate your passions and strengths before you choose your path.

Yet if you choose your path and realize it isn’t the correct one, ( try to do this sooner) then be willing to quit until you have it right. If you develop the right strategy then the stuff along the way..the tasks, projects, products and ideas etc will need to be changed in order to get to a successful outcome. David Allen, the corporate coach and productivity guru has a similar thought about being willing to renegotiate your agreements with yourself in order to clear your mind for greater and continuous energy. Simply, we have to better manage the flows and amount of the information we have and process it more easily in order to work and live a fulfilling and balanced life.

The take away on this might be, focus your energy on following a good strategy for life, business, projects and so on and be willing to change along the way until you start to have it right. Then you will ultimately have the energy and passion to carry through the tough spots or dips to the outcomes you want.

How about you, what’s your take on the Dip?

I just finished The 4 Agreements by Miguel Ruiz. What I like about this book is that, it is an easy read. Ruiz talks with a real life experience-common sense language that even the most indifferent non-self helper can appreciate.

The beginning of the book sounds like we are all in Hell and we will continue that way unless we do something. However it lightens up eventually as he set the stage to make his point about the “Agreements “, that we all have made in our lives. Many of these agreements he suggests, we have forgotten or are not even aware of because we made them so long ago, mostly when we were kids.

What I like is that book is a practical tool; 4 easy agreements that seem like common sense. It reminds me of the book, “All I really needed to know I learned in kindergarten”. Ruiz has an approach that is certainly more complex but none the less the message is pretty simple. Be impeccable with your word, don’t take things personally, don’t make assumptions and do your best. Pretty easy to understand and great reminders for all of us! I see why it got acclaim from other writers.

The fact that it is a small book is great because you can bang through it quickly. I have read and tried reading some of these other best sellers about “Intention”, spirit work and so on and the Bottom Line is that they are hard to read. Especially when you consider the amount of activates that most people are juggling every day to maintain some semblance of balance. Life has to be a combo of work and play right!

Finally if you do make it through on of those books on say, Intention, you really retain one main thing, ACT with intention. I didn’t need to read 450 pages to get that point. Yet enough people thought so, myself included because we drove the book to the New York Times best seller list. Great Marketing…maybe.

So, 4 agreements is a good read, makes sense and is practical. Ruiz keeps you interested in his story like prose. Two Thumbs up!
